ADP: adposition

Definition

Adposition is a cover term for prepositions and postpositions, Norwegian has prepositions and not postpositions. Some prepositions may function as verb particles, as in slå opp “look up”, gå inn “go inside”, but these are still analyzed as ADP.

Examples

Treebank Statistics (UD_Norwegian)

There are 164 ADP lemmas (1%), 173 ADP types (1%) and 40750 ADP tokens (13%). Out of 17 observed tags, the rank of ADP is: 8 in number of lemmas, 8 in number of types and 2 in number of tokens.

The 10 most frequent ADP lemmas: i, på, til, av, for, med, om, som, fra, etter

The 10 most frequent ADP types: i, på, til, av, for, med, om, som, fra, etter

The 10 most frequent ambiguous lemmas: i (ADP 8631, X 3, PROPN 1), (ADP 4624, X 5), til (ADP 4103, SCONJ 33, X 1), av (ADP 3715, X 2), for (ADP 3710, ADV 148, CONJ 99, X 7), med (ADP 3152, X 3), om (ADP 1597, SCONJ 473, X 1), som (PRON 3317, ADP 1410, SCONJ 28, X 4), fra (ADP 1374, SCONJ 12), etter (ADP 808, SCONJ 5)

The 10 most frequent ambiguous types: i (ADP 7853, X 3), (ADP 4423, X 5, ADJ 1), til (ADP 4042, SCONJ 32, X 1), av (ADP 3688, SCONJ 5, X 2), for (ADP 3543, ADV 143, CONJ 44, X 7), med (ADP 3061, X 3, CONJ 1), om (ADP 1572, SCONJ 443, X 1), som (PRON 3317, ADP 1336, X 4), fra (ADP 1311, SCONJ 9), etter (ADP 662, SCONJ 4)

Morphology

The form / lemma ratio of ADP is 1.054878 (the average of all parts of speech is 1.382778).

The 1st highest number of forms (4) was observed with the lemma “med”: at, med, meg, men.

The 2nd highest number of forms (2) was observed with the lemma “av”: at, av.

The 3rd highest number of forms (2) was observed with the lemma “enn”: en, enn.

ADP does not occur with any features.
