SCONJ: subordinating conjunction

Definition

A subordinating conjunction is a conjunction that links constructions by making one of them a constituent of the other. The subordinating conjunction typically marks the incorporated constituent which has the status of a (subordinate) clause.

Examples

Treebank Statistics (UD_Norwegian)

There are 27 SCONJ lemmas (0%), 30 SCONJ types (0%) and 6549 SCONJ tokens (2%). Out of 17 observed tags, the rank of SCONJ is: 12 in number of lemmas, 13 in number of types and 12 in number of tokens.

The 10 most frequent SCONJ lemmas: at, når, om, da, fordi, der, hvis, mens, før, dersom

The 10 most frequent SCONJ types: at, når, om, da, fordi, der, hvis, mens, før, dersom

The 10 most frequent ambiguous lemmas: at (SCONJ 3769, X 4), når (SCONJ 499, ADV 26), om (ADP 1597, SCONJ 473, X 1), da (SCONJ 335, ADV 310, X 1), fordi (SCONJ 244, X 1), der (SCONJ 238, ADV 222), hvis (SCONJ 235, PRON 4, DET 1), før (ADP 179, SCONJ 175, ADV 3), siden (ADV 105, SCONJ 68, ADP 56), enn (ADP 379, SCONJ 48, ADV 2)

Morphology

The form / lemma ratio of SCONJ is 1.111111 (the average of all parts of speech is 1.382778).

The 1st highest number of forms (2) was observed with the lemma “at”: at, av.

The 2nd highest number of forms (2) was observed with the lemma “enn”: en, enn.

The 3rd highest number of forms (2) was observed with the lemma “når”: Nå, når.

SCONJ does not occur with any features.
