Aspect is a feature that specifies duration of the action in time, whether the action has been completed etc. The Aspect feature applies to VERB. In Old Georgian, aspect can be either imperfective or perfective. Regardless of tense, both aspects can express iterative actions. When this occurs, the feature Iterative=Yes is used to mark it.
Imp: progressive, imperfective aspect
The action took / takes / will take some time span and there is no information whether and when it was / will be completed.
Examples
- წერს ‘he/she writes’, დგას ‘he/she stands’ etc.
Iter: iterative aspect
The action denotes repeated action.
Examples
- წერდის ‘he/she used to write; was writing (habitually/in the past)’, იტყოდის ‘he/she used to say; would say (repeatedly)’ etc.
Perf: perfective aspect
The action has been / will have been completed.
Examples
- შეიპყარს ‘he/she captured’, შეჰკარს ‘he/she tied’ etc.
