DET: determiner
Welsh has only a definit article, which is identical for both genders and both numbers. Its form depends on context:
- yr: in front of vowels: yr afal “the apple”
- ‘r: after a word ending with a vowel: Mae’r dyn hwn yn gryf “this man is strong”
- y: in all other cases: Mi welais y dyn “I saw the man”
