ADJ: adjective

Definition

Adjectives are words that typically modify nouns and specify their properties or attributes. They may also function as predicates or as adverbial modifiers

Pashto adjectives inflect for ps-feat/Gender, ps-feat/Number and ps-feat/Case.

Verbal adjectives can be derived productively from almost every verb (the passive ones only from transitive verbs) (e.g. لیکل likë́l “to write” → active لیکونکی likúnkay “writing”, passive لیکنی likanáy “written”). They are tagged ADJ, but with VerbForm=Part feature. They have always full gender-number-case inflectional paradigm and are used as common adjectives.

Apart from these, Pashto has also past participles, that are tagged VERB, because thay are used mostly in various compound forms, although they can be used in attributive or predicative positions like common adjectives.

For the overview of declension of adjectives in Pashto, see Pashto nominal system.
