In Classical Armenian, NumType as a lexical feature, which is tagged on numerals, adjectives and adverbs. Classical Armenian has a decimal numeral system. Complex numerals are built by means of derivation, compounding, and coordination.
Card
: cardinal numeral
Cardinal numerals modify nominals, with which they partially agreement in number and case.
Examples
- մի/mi “one”, երկու/erkow “two”, երեք/erekʻ “three”
Dist
: distributive numeral
Used to express that the same quantity is distributed to each member in a set of targets.
Examples
- առաքեաց զնոսա երկուս երկուս առաջի իւր / aṙakʻeacʻ znosa erkows erkows aṙaǰi iwr “sent them two and two before his face” (Lk.10:1).
Mult
: multiplicative numeral
Expresses an entity or quality which occurs a number of times.
Examples
- մինչչեւ հաւու խաւսեալ իցէ. երիցս ուրասցիս զիս / minčʻčʻew hawow xawseal icʻē: ericʻs owrascʻis zis “before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice” (Mt.26:34).
Ord
: ordinal number
Ordinal numerals are classified as adjectives. Except for առաջին/aṙaǰin “first”, they are derived from cardinals with the suffix -րորդ/-rord and -երորդ/-erord.
Examples
- առաջին/aṙaǰin “first”, երկրորդ/erkrord “second”, հինգերորդ/hingerord “fifth”
Sets
: collective numeral
Expresses a number of entities represented as a whole.
Examples
կոչեցեալ առ ինքն զերկոտասանեսին աշակերտսն իւր / kočʻecʻeal aṙ inkʻn zerkotasanesin ašakertsn iwr “he had called unto him all of his twelve disciples” (Mt.10:1).
