ADV: adverb

Definition

Adverbs are words that typically modify verbs for time, place, direction or manner. They may also modify adjectives and other adverbs.

Complex adverbs form multiword expression. The status of component words is accounted for in the syntactic annotation: the subsequent word is linked to the first one by the fixed relation. All component words are tagged as ADV (even in the case of foscilized prepositional phrases).

There is a subclass of demonstrative, relative and interrogative adverbs, which inflect for PronType. Demonstrative adverbs also inflect for Deixis.
