There are few words that are inherently marked as reflexive. They are usually not marked for person or number and are co-referential with the topic (mostly the subject) of the clause.
- xwad and xwēštan, which are typically used as reflexive pronouns;
- xwēš, which is typically used as a possessive pronoun that is co-referential with the topic of the clause.
There are no inherently reflexive verbs in Middle Persian.

- anaphoric xwēštan: čē kē xešm aweštābēd u=š xwēštan wirāstan tuwān pad wehīh “For whoever is overcome by anger can (once again) calm themselves through goodness.”
- possessive xwēš: mard=ē kē duxt ī xwēš rāy gōwēd “a man says about his daughter”
