AUX: auxiliary
Definition
An auxiliary is a function word that accompanies the lexical verb of a verb phrase and expresses grammatical distinctions not carried by the lexical verb, such as person, number, tense, mood, aspect, voice or evidentiality.. In Slovenian, the AUX tag is used for the verb biti “to be” accompanying a lexical verb (e.g. Tistega večera sem preveč popil. “I drank too much that evening.”) and in copula constructions (To je. grozno. “This is horrible.”).
In all other cases (e.g. content verb), biti is marked as verb.
