The verb bod is the verb for copula use and for composed tenses. Composed tenses however do not use participles but TAM markers (historically prepositions or adjectives)
In contrast to other verbs bod has 6 tenses. In the present tense it has a special form sy(dd) for relative clauses. Bod is used
- as a copula (together with a predicative particle yn): Mae o’n frenin “he is king”, roedd hi’n goch “it was read”
- composed tenses:
- Mae Ioan yn canu “Ioan is singing”
- Mae Ioan wedi canu “Ioan was singing”
- Mae Ioan wedi bod yn canu “Ioan has been singing”
